Coaster Instructions

Choose a fabric that is sturdy, but not too thick for the top layer. Choose a fabric that is sturdy
and a bit heavier for the bottom layer. Woven fabrics, like linen or cotton work best. PRE-WASH!
This is important!

Cut a piece of top layer fabric slightly bigger than your hoop. Use the smallest hoop possible.
Cut one or two layers of water soluble stabilizer. Using temporary spray adhesive, glue it to the
bottom of your top layer fabric and hoop both together. Or, you can just hoop the stabilizer and
place your fabric on top, securing in place with temporary spray adhesive.

Stitch the center design first then stitch the first basting circle (applique material) using either the
same color as the coaster fabric, or the color you choose for the finishing trim.

Remove the hoop from you machine, but do not remove the fabric from the hoop. Cut a piece of
bottom layer fabric that is larger than your basting circle. Spray one side of it with temporary
spray adhesive and place it carefully over the basting circle on the bottom of your hooped fabric.
Put the hoop back in the machine.

Stitch the next sequence (applique position) using the same color thread that you will use for the
finishing edge. Again remove the hoop from your machine. Do not remove the fabric from the
hoop. Carefully cut away the excess bottom layer very close to the stitching line. Then carefully
cut away the top layer of fabric very close to the stitching line. If you hooped the stabilizer and
top fabric together, trim away as much excess of this top layer fabric as you need to from inside
the hoop. Do not cut through the layers of film or tear-a-way.

Stitch the last color, which will be your accent color or you can choose a color to match the
coaster again. For the prettiest results, use the same color of thread in your bobbin. Tear away
the excess stabilizer from around the coaster. Soak your coasters in cool water until the stabilizer
is dissolved.
